In October we're planning on spending four nights in Kalabaka/Meteora and then traveling by train back to Athens. Does anyone know of a wonderful trainstop town along the way that might have a hotel and some sites to visit the next day? We will be visiting Delphi the week before, so we're looking for someplace new to visit overnight and the next day.

I don't know of any stops on the line Athens ↔ Kalambaka apart from the one at Paleofarsalos which has no interest (just platforms).
Following the recent floods, please note that all trains from Athens currently stop at this Paleofarsalos station. The section Kalambaka ↔ Paleofarsalos is done by bus.
To date, there is no expected date for a return to normal.
