Train from Thessaloniki to Belgrade

Has anybody taken this route lately? Like in the last month or so? I am trying to determine if they are still interrupting the train with having to take the bus across the border to Macedonia.

Most of the info on the web seems dated on this issue including seat 61. Others don't mention it at all.

Thanks in advance

But you also saw the part on Seat 61 info that says the train is canceled from April 1 to June 1, right? And then restarting June 2. But obviously, they can do what they want and if there is actual construction planned, it may not finish on schedule.

Yes but that tells me they will re open for the peak season and my trip will be in August. What I am concerned with is the change from the train to the BUS at the border. I will be taking my dog with me and while the train does take dogs the bus does not.

According to some sources the Bus transfer had to do with the migration problem which has eased considerably through there.

Seat 61 says the migration-cancellation was all the way from Thessaloniki, not just a portion near the border, which rings true to me. In which case, I also think they were not reflected in schedules at that time, but they have been recently.

Thanks Laura for your help. What I read on Seat 61 is that the train cancellation ended in 2017. So that didnt concern me. Unless he's wrong. The Greek Railway site doesn't address this and it looks like trains are running from what I see but other sites do mention it. (the bus transfer)

I was hoping someone who has tried to take it or has taken it would chime in here as this is an important gap for me. My other options are the train through Sofia to Belgrade (not so good connections for me) or the Ferry from Patras to Venice rather pricey at €500 with a cabin and my Pooch.

My real end destination for this leg is actually Budapest.
