I have booked two private tours--one in Naxos and one in Santorini. What is the appropriate amount (or percentage) to tip the guide? Thanks!
I'm going to assume that most licensed guides in Greece work for themselves, not a big conglomerate, and set their own prices. In that case, I would not tip, and I don't in most cases in Europe. When it becomes more important is if the tour is "free," since those guides often pay a commission to a "free-tour" company for each person present at the start of the tour, and without any tip they actually lose money.
Given how difficult the people are having it right now down there, put the rules aside and give them a reasonable tip!!! Remember that those who have work are often having to support other family members.
Yes, the 2 guides I have booked are individuals working for themselves. So I just pay the stated price I guess?
I'm with Jim. Give the guides a tip.
