Three Lakes in Naxos

I was looking at a hotel and beach at Agios Prokopios, but I read on-line that the "Three Lakes" there are actually three sewage pits that emit a horrendous odor. Does anyone have knowledge of this?

Oh my, mosquitoes breed there? That may be worse than the sewage/marsh.

Which Naxos beach do you think is the best for families with young kids?

I would stay at St. George adjoining Naxos town. We stayed there without young kids. It is shallower and warmer and there are lots of restaurants ect near the beach. We ate dinner on the beach.

We spent one day when it was too chilly to swim exploring all the beaches. I would not want to stay anywhere else other than St. George. Most of the other beaches have a few hotels and restaurants but not really a town. They are better for a day trip to the beach in my opinion.

If you are a beach person and your whole reason for gong to Greece is to spend time on the beach then I wold suggest Plaka beach. Its amazing. However the fact that you have kids makes St George your best bet. As Beth says its actually part of Naxos town and is just a 10 minute stroll to Naxos waterfront promenade. You get a beach vacation with all the activities of town close by. St George is chock full of kids
