Things to do on Holy Saturday and Easter Sunday

Hi,
I will be in Athens, Greece over Easter weekend and am wondering which church should I visit on Holy Saturday evening to participate in church activities? I am would love to experience what the locals do for Holy Saturday.

Also, what are things that are open on Easter Sunday? I am open to anything... Central Market, attractions, etc. I would also like to experience an Easter meal with roast lamb. Any recommendations around Athens? I won't have a car so anything accessible through public transport or foot would be great.

Thanks!

Regards,
Tze

You might like to look at the lamb and cheese market in Psyrri, close to Monastiraki metro.

On the Saturday night, asssuming you are central, there will be a large crowd at the Mitropoleos on Mitropoleos Street running down from Syntagma. I doubt if you will get into the service but you will see people ceremonially passing on the light of candles.

On Sunday morning there is a big service in he Mitropoleos and ther used to be a military parade. Not sure if this is still going on during the economic crisis, but it was never that exciting! If it was me I'd go onto Filopappou stopping at the beautiful little church of Saint Loumbardiaris. We've written up the walk and a little about the church here (second walk down)

Have a great time.

Thanks Alan for the ideas! I'd definitely check out the places you mentioned.
We will have the whole Sunday to fill so I am looking for additional things to do. I came across the cable car http://www.lycabettushill.com/cable-car/ and it does say it runs 365 days a year. Do you know if that information is updated?

Thanks again.

I'm sure the cable car runs every day, and the trip is worthwhile.
