Thessaloniki to meteora

I want a one day tour to Metora from Thessaloniki , not for hiking, just to see the monasteries., and not by train. Which tour do you recommend an why. Thanks!

I am no help with a tour, as I had a rental car. It will be a 3 hour drive each way. Excuse me if I am saying things you already know, but I think your choices are to book a private guide (and I have no information) or to book a tour through Get Your Guide (or similar). Big difference in cost and flexibility. You will have time for 2 monasteries max. But still worth it to see. These will all be about the same. Another really interesting (and closer) option (for me) would be a trip to Vergina and Veria.

A third choice: If you are starting a cruise from Thessaloniki and have the flexibility for it, it would be totally worth getting a car for 2 days and spending a night in Kastraki. However, you would need to be comfortable with some smaller roads and mountain driving. Most of the way is nice highway but not all.

Hello Carol,
We have booked a one-day Meteora bus tour from Thessaloniki with a company called Ammon Express - via Tripadvisor. The tour leaves central Thessaloniki a few blocks (8 minute walk according to Google) from our lodging at 8:00AM which is very convenient. We had looked at rail tours as well but the logistics of the bus tour looked more suitable for us. Both options were about the same cost (60 euro / $65US ish). Our tour is not until mid-September so we can't yet give a review, but the Tripadvisor reviews were OK. Here is the link to that tour
