Testing to Return to US—flying Greece to Germany then US

My family and I will be returning to the US after two weeks in Greece, flying home through Frankfurt, Germany where we have 24 hours. Will we need to get a negative Covid test in Germany (24 hour layover) or would getting tested in Greece on June 3rd work if our flight arrives in the US on June 5th? Thank you!

If the Negative Covid Test is still required by the US (there’s been some speculation that the negative test requirement may be dropped in May) when you’re due to return to the U.S., you will need to be tested in Frankfurt since the antigen test has to be done the day before you depart Europe up through the day of departure. The earliest you can conduct the test is June 4 if you’re flying home June 5.

Reading the cdc faq on this now. It’s a little unclear on how ig applies to long layovers. It’s one day before the FIRST flight, but I don’t know if that still applies when there’s a day in between. If your flight is on two separate tickets I’m almost positive you need a test in Frankfurt. If it’s one one ticket with a long layover then..,I’m not sure.

Thank you all for the information! It looks like you can make a reservation at the Frankfurt Airport for Covid tests so we may just do that and hope for the best in terms of results coming back in time.
