My idea would be to take a taxi from the hotel to the square and then the metro from the square to the airport to save a little money and walking with luggage. Is this a good idea? Does anyone know about the cost of a taxi from the Royal Olympic to the metro on the square? Thanks for any help you can give.
Id recommend just taking the taxi from the hotel all the way to the airport... for 35-euro or so I think its better than experimenting with Metro unless you are well versed in Athens, traveling light, and have lots of time to afford getting on the wrong way . Save an extra 20 euro at home before or after you go if needed! The hotel can get you a proper guaranteed taxi.
Others may say how easy it is - which it probably is - but if its the first time on metro - maybe the way home is not the time to try it out! :) My 2 cents!
Looking at google maps its a 10-15 min walk-- why bother with a taxi to go .6 miles ( 1 km)?
Joe’s right that it’s an easy enough walk but you can also walk up to Acropolis Metro which is only 200 yards away. The change at Syntagma is then well signposted.
There is crime on the metro, as there is in any big city. You just need to take the usual precautions.
The cheapest option is actually the express bus from Syntagma. I actually prefer this: you get to see more and, once you are on the bus, it’s more relaxing. Depending on traffic it can take longer than the metro though.
