We'll be in Athens for a couple days in June then drive to see a friend in Itea. We'll take a taxi into Athens from the airport. What are the rates and tipping customs we should expect? What tips are expected at hotels and restaurants? I assume a service charge is normally included. Finally, any advice on driving a rental car out of downtown Athens?

Daytime taxi rate is fixed at €38. Tipping not required but it's good to leave a few coins behind in your room for the cleaning staff. Greeks don't tip in restaurants. Finding your way out of Central Athens can be a nightmare. Either study a street map carefully beforehand, find a rental agent who will "lead" you out of the center to the National Highway or take the Metro out to the airport, get your car there and return it before taking the Metro back into the city.
