Swift Car rental experience?

I’m about to book a 3-week car rental with Swift and started to look at comments on the web. I found some very negative comments on TA from about 10 years ago. I’d link to the site but I don’t think I can publish another website on the site. I’m now a bit worried and wondered what experience people have had. The criticisms are concerning -old cars, limited ability to get help with a flat tire, no one to contact who spoke English during the off hours.

We will be picking up in Athens and dropping off in Thessaloniki so using Athens Car rental isn’t viable since the car needs to be returned to Athens.

I’d really appreciate comments before I proceed.

It is possible that Swift Car Rental in Athens no longer even exists except in old advertisements on Matt Barrett's website, in which case your problem is solved.

In Athens you will find lots of rental companies that allow you to drop-off the car in Thessaloniki. Car rental companies in town are mostly located on Leof Andrea Siggrou avenue.

Personally I rent with Capital Rent A Car but you can also see:
Kosmos Rent a Car, Avance Car Rental, Vega Rent a Car, Europcar, etc...

Go to their websites and do rental simulations.

As for the bad reviews on TA or others, don't focus on those. If you take all reviews into account by going back up to 10 years in the past, I think you will never leave your house, nor even get on a plane. Statistically, 80% of satisfied customers never publish a review on Internet

Thanks, JoLui. Swift exists and I’ve been in contact with them. The communication is excellent. There are very good comments about Swift in the Fodors forum, another site I use for planning. I will check out the other sites you mention as well but after reading more, I’m more comfortable with my choice.

We used Swift and found them very helpful and the car was fine. They picked us up in our car at our hotel in the Plaka, drove us to their office on Syngrou, and gave us easy directions to get out of town (its almost all straight autoroutes from there out). At the other end, we just dropped our car off at Athens airport and met a guy there to drop off the car. Very easy.

We’ve now confirmed and I’ve submitted a deposit so we’re all set. Happily, we’ll be starting in Athens, traveling through the Peloponnese, then to Delphi, Meteora, and ending in Thessaloniki, where we’ll stop the car.

I’m getting excited now!

We just returned and worked with Elias Manoua of Swift Car rentals and he and his team were great. Wonderful car - my husband said it was the best rental we’ve ever had - and quick response if we had any questions. We were picked up by the lovely Dimitria at our Athens AirBnB and driven comfortably out of town to start us out on our way to Nafplio.

We dropped our car at the Avra hotel in Rafina, where they picked up the car. Prices for rental were very fair.

I would highly recommend them.
