Rick Steve's Greece book recommends Caldera Yachting in Santorini. This would be a splurge for me. I am thinking of the sunset classic cruise. Has anyone done this and enjoyed it? Will it be too cold for early October and will I be able to swim?
Early October is still quite warm.
We did this (although not with that company), and yeah it was a splurge, and yeah it was cheesy, but it was fun, and a good perspective on the caldera, and a nice break from the go go go of travel and site seeing. I thought it was about an hour too long (but the sun will set sooner for you ;p We did it in July)
We only have a few days in Santorini. Would it be too much to take a ferry over to Santorini in the am and in the evening doing this tour?
Please clarify about "taking a ferry over in the morning...." Do you mean when you first arrive on Santorini from Athens or another island? The wind can blow strong in October. Don't book in advance. Wait until you're there to assess the weather. In October these caldera cruises are seldom sold out. The water will be brisk but swimmable. The windier it is the colder the surface water becomes, the same way you cool off a cup of coffee by blowing on it.
Thank you for all the tips. I think I will wait till I get there but I have a feeling it is going to be too chilly.
