Suggestions for Greece

We will be spending 3 days in Greece in June. Our flight is booked to Athens, any suggestions about a day/ night trip to one of the islands? If so which one would you recommend and is it worth to save time by flying to the island?
Also looking for hotel recommendations for hotels and activities in Athens and one must see island on your list.

thankyou!

Delphi for sure is wonderful. Fly to Mykonos or santorini if u still have time. It will be a whirlwind but enjoyable .ferry is wat to slow on your schedule. As u prob already noticed Athens rates no more than one day. If u stay nr Acropolis u will at least notwaste time to and fro and see almost all within walking distance. And try to have onel at least one meal at Mani Mani restaurant nr Acropolis areasee their website for hrs. Food is terrific and well priced. It is on a second floor in mixed commercial residential area., a must. Rick has iin his guidebk a choice of hotels in this area hopefully one of then works for your budget.

There are numerous islands to see, but with your time frame I would suggest one of the closer ones to Piraeus such as Aegina or Hydra, two very popular day-trip islands, both offer something different. Hydra has one of the most beautiful waterfronts in all of Greece and there are no motorized vehicles allowed on the island, everything is transported by donkeys which gives you a feel of the "old" Greece. Aegina has more to offer as far as activities and things to do with one of the best temples anywhere in Greece, an abandoned village in the hills, beaches, hiking and a nice main town of Aegina and is known as the Pistachio Capitol of Greece.. Hydra is more for just hanging out, eating, having a drink, people watching but there is some good hiking, too. The village goes uphill from the waterfront with very lovely homes and is much quieter than the waterfront. Both are a short ferry ride from Athens.
