STUNG: Sarakiniko Beach, Milos. Plant or animal?

We went to Sarakiniko Beach in Milos yesterday, and my son was "stung" by something on his torso that very quickly caused swelling/welting. We went immediately to the pharmacy; the pharmacist gave us Fenistil and Betacort. Later in the day (after applying the Fenistil, which is apparently an antihistamine), the swelling went away, but now there are dark red/purplish marks on his torso.

I sent pictures to my pediatrician back in the United States, but he reported that he was unfamiliar with anyone ever having experienced this sort of thing while in Greece.

Wondering if anyone on here knows whether this was a sea anemone or a dragon plant--I have read anecdotes of both--so that I might give my pediatrician at home better information when we return.

Thank you.

Did your son get in the sea? Could it be from jellyfish? They sting and leave rashes..

There are quite a few marine animals present in the Mediterranean Sea which can cause stings and this type of skin reaction.

At Sarakiniko beach, yes it"s probably a sea anemone which is common on rocky beaches.
