Staying near Lycabettus Hill

Hello! I'm visiting Athens for about 8 days with my family. We're in the city that long for work purposes and I'm seeking feedback on best areas to stay.

I've booked an airbnb near Lycabettus Hill, roomy, great reviews and it has a pool. We're physically fit and enjoy walking. We'll be doing a lot of sightseeing within the city, but also making daytrips out. This place looked calm and peaceful, and has a pool for our young child.

I'm seeking thoughts on the location? I know Plaka is the place to be for centrally located sights, but I'm also thinking we can navigate transit, taxis, or by foot and enjoy quieter evenings outside of the tourist center.

Thanks for any feedback you have!

Lycabettus is a big hill and so quite a lot of areas are near it. From the fact you’ve got a pool I’m guessing you’re in Kolonaki rather than say Ambelokipi?

Assuming Kolonaki you’re a fairly easy walk from Syntagma, one of Athens’s central squares, and from there down into Plaka. The area itself is fairly upmarket and prices in restaurants and bars a bit higher than in some other areas. You’re close to three good museums: the Cycladic, the Byzantine and the Benaki each with their own charm.

A favourite taverna in that area is the Philippou

I would never stay in Plaka which is tourist central. The Kolonaki/ Lycabettus Hill area is near embassies and Syntagma Square,a great location. Kolonaki is one of Athen’s best neighborhoods and is where my friends live.
Don’t miss the Cycladic Museum.
