Staying at Vothonas or Emporio Santorini

Any suggestions between these towns on Santorini?
I know it’s not Oia or Fira but does anyone have any advice or have been to these two towns?

Can't address Vothonas but we did stop in Emporio for lunch when driving between Akrotiri and Perissa. It was pretty slow back in Spring 2016. I'd stay somewhere on the rim of the caldera. We based in Oia for 3 nights and rented a car.
