A few years ago we did a fabulous small boat (30 passengers) cruise in the Adriatic with a Croatian company called Kompas. The small ship was intimate, very comfortable and we had a great guide for shore excursions with stops every day in the Adriatic for a swim. The captain would just stop, drop anchor and we jumped in the water. So….l am looking for something like this for Greece. Does anyone know of a company that they would recommend I contact? Much thanks
There are various day boat trips in most islands. It's hard to do research until one is on the ground.
I have seen ads for Varity Cruises but have not gone on one not know anyone who has.
I know that a number of people have looked for such things... hard to find. Variety Cruises I think has moe than 30, more like 90 passengers, and does not have the kind of informal stop-where-we-want arrangements. I know of several opportunities where a couple can rent a skippered boat with motor AND sail, that starts right in the heart of the Cyclades ... Paros or Naxos... so you can fly tthere and immediately be sailing among the small islands, instead of a lengthy trip from Piraeus. But I sense what you wish is something larger, structured & everything would be handled. Don't we all!
I think about Naxos harbor, where there are manny many anchored vessels, some of them substantial sailing yachts. I well remember on my very first Greece trip ('99), when we were sitting at a harbor cafe at sunset, and a dozen or 15 people came sauntering down the pvt-yacht pier from a lofty & gorgeous 3 masted schooner. They sat down at our cafe, all tanned and long-limbed, the women blonde, long-jawed, with gold bangles, the men with impeccable grey haircuts, suitably tousled blazers and linen slacks. Murmuring in undefinably accented English, they mentioned being bored. I felt as if I were in a Noel Coward play. In 12 additional trips to Naxos, I have not seen that schooner. I have looked, however. I wish to book a cabin.
Thank you Barkinpart, Suki and Janet. I will check out Varity/Variety.
I hope you are not prone to seasickness. With the winds of the Aegean, anything smaller than a big ferry has me running for the paper bags. :-)
You could check out the website; Matt Barrett guide to Greece. Tons of information there and he does respond to personal email questions. He would surely know the answer to your question. Also, check with Fantasy travel, they might know of something.
Rather expensive, but Seadream yacht does Greek island cruising.
We had a wonderful week in Turkey with seascape-sailing.com. They also do Greece which is their home base. The others on our trip had come from a week on the same boat in Greece.
Thank you Laurie Ann
