My husband and I have not been to either yet. We want to couple 15 nights in Europe with Greece and one other country, thinking about Croatia. We are active early 50's, adventurous and love to relax on a beach on our down days. We would love some advice on making the most of Greece and one other country ( we did Italy last year....loved it but want something else this year). Any advice would be much appreciated!.....Jennifer and Brian
Greece goes well with Turkey. Few years ago we did R.S. Turkey tour which ended in Kusadasi. From there by ferry to Samos, Mykonos, Santorini and then Athens. All by ferry. You can start in Istanbul then Izmir, Ephesus, Kusadasi in one week then Greek Islands and Athens next week. September is still quite warm.
Two weeks in one country is more practical, given the slower transportation options in the region, and you won't run out of variety or things to do.
There is no easy way to travel between Greece and Croatia, so forget that pairing; see also our Greece and Croatia rail pages.
Direct flights are affordable from Athens to Istanbul; see www.skyscanner.com. Traveling through the Greek islands to the Turkish coast requires more than one ferry ride on more than one travel day.
