Sending luggage home

Hello,

I will have approximately 25lbs of personal effects to send back from Athens to the US. These are mostly costumes needed for dance performances that I can't just get rid of nor that I want to continue lugging around for the rest of our trip. Wondering if anyone has experience with shipping suitcases, duffels, or even boxes of carry on luggage size with Sendmybag.com or mybaggage.com, or any other suggestions. DHL wants upwards of $750, at which point I should just buy a ticket for someone to transport it home for me!!! Sendmybag is more reasonable, though still not cheap at approximately $350, but it's an unknown entity.

I've used Sendmybag and would use them again. Easy and efficient.

Someone recently posted that they went through Send My Bag; which actually uses DHL, but was cheaper than going through DHL directly.

Your story is curious. We sent about 40 pounds of clothing and other stuff back to California from Berlin via DHL mid-trip last year. Just put it all into a cardboard box. Sent it surface, not air freight, at a cost of about $80. Perhaps they're quoting you air freight?

Thanks all. I spoke with a DHL rep prior to posting and was told air freight is their only option from Greece.

Can you put it in storage and then bring it as an extra checked bag when you head for home ?

I used Sendmy bag when I moved back to the US from Rome to ship multiple large suitcases and it was fine, even with a few days delay in Germany which I could see on their website. They did require an itemized list of the contents/value for customs purposes. Nothing was damaged and delivery to me was by DHL. I would use them again.

This might be a good suggestion, and could turn out to be your cheapest option...but first check the cost for that extra checked bag (can vary a lot by airline) - also find out if (and how much it might cost) to leave the bag in storage until your return flight.

That could have been me. What I like about Sendmybag was they were good with helping fill out the forms then DHL pickup up my bag and delivered it 4 days later to me in the US.
