I have a general question that perhaps one of the RS guides could answer. Is the intention of the self guided walking tours that we read paragraph by paragraph then look up from the book to see where we are and then return to the book for another paragraph? Do I have an unrealistic expectation of how these self guided tours are supposed to work. Any guidance would be appreciated. Thank you.

I agree that this would be pretty awkward. This is where the "Rick Steves Audio Europe" App really can be helpful. There are quite a few audio walking tours on this app that you can download in advance and listen to during a museum visit or walking tour. The app is free.
