Searching for Tips on Rhodes, Greece

My cruise itinerary was just changed and will no longer be going to Kusadashi, Turkey (Ephesus). Instead we will be going to the port of Rhodes, Greece. I am searching for feedback from anyone who has gone to this area and what they would suggest for activities (food, shopping, sites, museums, leisure, health and wellness).

Thanks Harold - We planned on purchasing Rick Steve's Mediterranean Cruise book. I will check out the rest of the tips you gave. Thanks again

Our cruise a couple of years ago was diverted to Rhodes. You have a couple of choices on a cruise. The ship docks right beside the city walls so you can just get off the ship and wander around the old town and visit museums and the Grand Masters palace.
There is lots to do in this walled old city on a DIY basis.

You can take a ships excursion that would include the acropolis of Lindos which is a nice get away. On our first cruise a decade ago we hooked up with another couple and just walked to the taxi stand beside the ship and agreed on a price for the driver to take us on a tour of the island with Lindos being our ultimate target.

Here is what you can expect on Rhodes. The album is a compilation of our two visits to Rhodes.

There is plenty to do within the old city walls of Rhodes town to fill a day. While there are a great more many awesome things to do on the island at-large, if you're only there for the day, just stay in town; you'll love it.

Agree with last post, if you are only there for a day just stay in the medieval city center of Rhodes town; DIY - don't bother with the cruise's tours. My first stop there was by cruise in 2007 and I have been back twice since to spend a long weekend. You can find info on sightseeing/places to visit in tour books, etc. All of the main sites are within walking distance. My favorite places to eat are Koukos and Niochori (both listed in Tripadvisor).
Save Lindos for another trip :)

Thank you for your post Katvg. I will check out your recommendations for dining. We were thinking about renting scooters and going to Lindos, do you think there is enough to do in town to keep me busy all day?

Oh yes. Even if you walked Rhodes town all day you would not run out of things to do and see. Sometimes the best plan is just to get lost in the back alleys.
