Saturday schedule High Season

Hello,

My family of 4 will be arriving in Athens on a Saturday, May 25 around 10:30 in the morning. After customs and baggage claim, we will be picked up at the airport by our Plaka hotel where we plan to drop our bags and freshen up before setting out. I’d like to get both the Acropolis Museum and the National Archaeological Museum in on that Saturday as I plan to start our Acropolis Combo Ticket on Sunday morning and we leave Athens Monday morning.

Can you advise on which to see first, the Acropolis Museum or Archaeological Museum? I don’t know the exact timing but I’m thinking we could get to Acropolis Museum by 1:00?? since we’re staying in the Plaka. We would taxi to Archaeological Museum, but don’t know how long that would take either.

Thought/recommendations on the timing of this day would be appreciated. Thank you.

Janice

The combo ticket will no longer exist from April 1st 2024 , when the prices will switch to summer rates.

If your flight arrives at 10:30 a.m. you probably won't be at your hotel in Plaka until 12:30 p.m. / 1 p.m.

Since you are staying in a hotel in Plaka you will be very close, probably less than 10 minutes walk, to the Acropolis Museum. Start with that (but try to go to lunch first, you're on vacation, you don't try to break Guiness Book records!)

I doubt you will be fit enough to visit the NAM the same day. The NAM is one of the largest museums in Europe, its visit takes at least 2 hours. To get there from Plaka it's about 15 minutes by taxi.

Start with the Acropolis Museum and book the Acropolis visit for Sunday morning (a time slot as early as possible)

The official website for booking Acropolis tickets is :

RE: the combo ticket... hoping someone can help me with this question:

If I buy my ticket and say , for example, that I want to go to the Acropolis on March 24, can I go to the Agora on March 23 or must my first visit be the time slot I chose for the Acropolis?

You're not the first to ask.
The answer is... that there is no official answer.

The ticket office staff have told other visitors who have been in this situation that they can ignore the time slot if they have a combined ticket.

I also think this is why the Combo ticket will no longer be offered, it's not compatible with the time slots.

So, to date the only rules to respect are those of 5 days from the first visit and not to visit the same site more than once.

If you visit the Agora on the 23rd, you can visit all other sites included in the combo ticket, including the Acropolis at any time, until March 27.
