I think I may have a problem. I have planned my itinerary to take a ferry from Santorini to Heraklion on Tuesday, May 7th, International Worker's Day. There are two ferries I can choose from, SeaJets and Fast Ferries. Will they both be affected by union labor disruptions? If so, is there any other alternative I can use to get from one island to the other on this day?

I am not sure what will happen on the 7th, but you probably would be wise to prepare for the worst. Perhaps changing your transfer date the day before or the day after may be a good idea.

If the usual May 1st strike is postponed to the 7th, the Fast Ferries Thunder will be canceled with a 100% chance because she is scheduled to leave Piraeus in the morning, and no departure from Piraeus takes place on strike days.
Regarding the Seajets Powerjet which takes an intra-Cycladic route leaving from Heraklion in the morning, I cannot say.
And No, if there are no ferries there is no other alternative except to take flights Santorini→Athens + Athens→ Heraklion
