Arriving by cruise ship (0800-2200) early October. Looking for inexpensive ways for 2 people to see as much as we can see. Don't particularly like the ship excursions that are offered. Private tours for two are expensive. How challenging is it to drive around the island? Other ideas/options?
Thanks so much.
Pat

Pat,
We will also be in Santorini on October 6th. Is that about the time you will be going?

Thanks Harold. This looks like a very useful site!
A car is the by far the best way to explore the island when you have time constraints. It's not at all challenging to drive there. The Hertz rental office is the closest to where you come up into Fira by cable car from the tender dock below. Turn left out of the cable car building and walk to the end of the path. Turn right and up ahead a short distance on the left is a small flight of steps down to an alleyway lined with shops leading out to the main road. When you get to the main road you'll see the Hertz office on your right,
