Santorini Itinerary Feedback

Hi! We are excited to start really planning our day-to-day itinerary for Santorini!! We are 37 years old (10 year wedding anniversary) traveling with another couple. So many people have been a help on this site already :)

We arrive Santorini on July 2nd at 12 PM (from airport) - staying in Firastefani at Agali Houses, Check out is July 5th.

We need help with what to do when we arrive (flying internationally from NYC to Athens and straight to Santorini).

Full Day 1 (July 3) - As of now, no cruise ships listed on the website! We are thinking of waking up early and enjoying Oia early. Possibly the hike from Fira? Feedback on this please. I saw Santorini Dave has a hike itinerary on his site. After this I am not sure what to do with the rest of the day. Was thinking dinner at Athenian House (Santorini Dave recommended)

Full Day 2 (July 4) - Was thinking a private or semi private boat tour for the day so that we can see some beaches, then possible winery at night for sunset? Dinner at winery (any recommendations for which to choose - was thinking Venetsanos) or dinner at Kastro Oia.

Leave July 5th at 12:35 for the ferry to Amorgos. How far in advance should we be prepared to show up for a ferry?

Any insight on restaurants/if I will need a car or not/ if my hotel is good/ wineries/boat companies would be so appreciated!

You all are the best! Thank you!!

I see you're now considering Amorgos (good idea).

Regarding the ferry departure from Santorini, you'll need to go to the port of Athinios. It's at the end of a winding dead-end road, very congested with all the vehicles (coaches, trucks, cars) coming and going from the port. Allow at least 30 minutes from Fira/ Firostefani and be at the port at least 30 minutes before the ferry's departure time.
KTEL buses leave to the port from the Fira bus station. There are no pre-programmed schedules, the bus departs approximately one hour before each ferry departure.

Going to Amorgos you'll be taking the Seajets "Superjet", it's this ferry:

Don't confuse it with the larger World Champion jet, which departs 30 minutes later.

Note that Amorgos has two ports: Aegiali and Katapola. Your ferry will arrive at the port of Katapola. Personally, if I had to choose where to stay in Amorgos, I'd prefer Aegiali for many reasons (beach, walks, nearby hikes, atmosphere).

A car isn't essential in Santorini if you're only doing the basics. In Amorgos, it can be more useful depending on your activities; the buses in Amorgos are less convenient than those in Santorini.
