Santorini Honeymoon!

Hi Everyone... we're going to Santorini (from Boston) for our Honeymoon - August 20 - 30, 2018. I'm perusing all of the travel sites, and there are just way too many choices.

I'm looking for recommendations on where to stay in Santorini (we're also hoping to spend a couple nights in Athens on the way back). To start, are their any recommended areas / towns you suggest over others?

A few things we're looking for... gracious and helpful hosts, definitely water view / oceanfront, upscale and clean but not total luxury, a nice pool, a restaurant / bar would be nice, a spa would be nice, but not required, don't really need a full kitchen or suite - a refrigerator would do, a balcony preferred, walking distance to at least a few bars / hotels / sites, . Budget - maybe $350 - $500 a night?

Any help is very much appreciated!! Thanks! Frank

We spent 4 nights at the Santorini Palace Hotel. It has most of what you require but no spa as I recall. From our terrace a view of the caldera and people came from other hotels to see the sunset which we could enjoy with a glass of wine in our hands sitting on our balcony. Worth looking into.

Oia is the most beautiful and romantic village on the island. Stay there if you can find something you like that's in your budget. There are plenty of shops, galleries, cafes and restaurants there to choose from.

Check Olympic Villas, Aspa Villas (cave house), Fotinos Houses, Lava Oia's, Angel Cave Houses and Enalion Studios. Some of these have pools, some don't, but there is a lovely public-access pool in Oia that's free as long as you buy food and/or drinks. Great place for sunset watching. www.lioyerma.gr

Stay in Fira so you are close to the majority of nightlife and restaurants. There are many great places to stay in the caldera; just plug in your specs in booking.com and you will see plenty to choose from. Rent a scooter so you can check out all the beaches, sunsets, and do your sightseeing. Oia has romantic views but you might find it lacks excitement after 5 or 6 nights. I recommend going to the rocky cliff beaches right outside of the waterfront restaurant area, swim and sun, then have a lovely afternoon meze in Oia.

You specified you were wanting water view and most of the responses referenced Caldera view. There is a difference. Water view includes the caldera but it can also be a view over the other side of the island over the Aegean. For any other island a sea view over the Aegean is great however on Santorini the desired view is a Caldera view. Particularly for a honeymoon be sure you choose a hotel with Caldera view.
You also said you might be looking for Oceanfront. There are some nice hotels with oceanfront but they are at the beaches in Kamari and Perissia and no caldera view from there.

I may sound a bit paranoid but even as an experienced visitor to Santorini I got drawn in by a sunset view that turned out not a caldera view, It turned out to be our best ever visit to Santorini which was great but on a honeymoon make sure your get the famous views.
For fun here is what you can expect.
