Santorini from 1st to 5th April 2025

We are planning to travel to Santorini with a 3 year old from 1st to 3rd April. I have read that there are places that will be closed, restaurant and hotels won't be open in full swing. I am looking to hear from the community if this will be a good time to visit Santorini. We do not plan to do a lot of beach / water activities due to the cold weather.

If Santorini is not a good option, can you recommend what else can we do. We are visiting Athens for 3 days before planning for Santorini.

Thank you

The tourist season starts around early April but Santorini is always busy, even if it's just locals.

Santorini airport handles about 60,000 passenger arrivals in March 2024 (and 32,000 in February 2024), which doesn't take into account ferry arrivals. So you shouldn't be alone even if cruise arrivals don't really start until mid-April.

It's up to you to decide if Santorini is a good option and if it's worth spending a few hundred Euros and 2 half days on transport/transfer logistics, for only a full day on the island on April 2nd.

Since the ferry is not an option given the time it takes to travel from Piraeus to Santorini, you will have to go to Athens airport to catch a flight to Santorini.

Where else are you going in Greece?

But if all you are doing is three days in Athens and then two nights on an Island, I would change plans.

Forget Santorini. Not really enough time. Instead, one day visit Delphi. On another day, visit Hydra. It's an island but only two hours by ferry from Athens. Spend the day there.

I believe there’s no better time to visit Santorini than April! Many restaurants and shops will be open, and while some fancy spots might still be closed, it’s a perfect time for exploring the island without the summer crowds. The weather is usually mild and pleasant, making it ideal for sightseeing with your little one. It’s a quieter and more relaxed experience, showcasing the charm of Santorini at its best!

April is a good month, but the weather is a little unpredictable. It might be windy and rainy some days.
Santorini is not an island known for its beaches so you dont need to go there during summer time. In my opinion the best month is November. Still warm and mostly shinny before winter time.
