Santorini Cruise Excursions

I have read RS Mediterranean Cruise Port book to help prepare for our departure from Barcelona to Venice. We will be on Santorini Thanksgiving day. Has anyone done a 4x4 trip there? Rick doesn't mention it.

It sounds like getting from the cruise port to Fira is a bit trying. Especially returning. Booking thru the cruise line is one way to be sure to get back to ship with some ease.

Thought this may be an interesting way to spend the day. We don't drink, so no winery tour ... Oia sounds lovely but tourist ridden .....

Any input? Thanks

When we were there in the Spring, we rode the cable car up the hill and walked around town.
We rented an ATV which my wife and I rode all over the island. It worked out very well, and didn't break the bank.

Santorini's a beautiful place, and you'll enjoy it.

If you can get info now from your ship where the 4x 4 excursion departs, that is the best way to advise you. Alo, are you on a large or small ship?
There is one dock exclusively for the morning tour buses departures- no taxis. You are tendering both directions but with the ship's shre excursion you may not have to ride the funicular. It is possible that you're taking the funicular up and back; possibly a long line- see if you are in port with any other ships that day. Going with the ship tour only eases the arrival, probably not the departure.
4 x 4s and cars are readily available in Fira. You can buy the funicular tickets once there and walk to the rentals. IIf you leave Fira an hour or hour/& a half earlier than the last tender , the wait is minimal. Trading time onland for convenience... Even tho we had return tickets, we still had to wait for the funicular line because only one person was selling or checking tickets!

Thanks! This is actually an adventure type or more remote 4x4 experience. Just wondering if anyone had done it, and if it was a good experience. Mounds kind of fun to me! We would still have some time in Fira.

Santorini isn't an island for off-roading. Yes, there are some unpaved roads but aside from the occasional rut they're not interesting or challenging, and there is no part of the island where you can just go off road and make your own track. The whole island is basically private property.

The 4 x 4 s are driven on the roads. Lee is correct about that. So you will have to carry your backpack with you when you leave the car for lunch, etc. If you like convertible cars, the 4 x 4s look like even more windy fun. You can use a stickshift, right?

Just reread your sentence: "This is actually an adventure type or more remote 4x4 experience.".. sounds like this is a ship excursion you are considering?
