I have two days on the ground in Santorini and two days on the ground in Athens in the coming week and would like to do a 1/2(?) day photo tour in each place. Anyone have a guide to suggest? Thanks!!
Maybe you are getting no answers because nobody knows what you mean by "photo tours."
I'm just guessing but perhaps you mean that you are not interested in going in to ancient sites/landmarks, just taking pictures from the outside. In that case, there is/was a FREE walking tour (the guides get paid bytips) http://www.athensfreewalkingtour.com/index.php they take you by all the famous sites /sights. Takes 3 hours; starts from in front of Acropolis Museum. As website says, you need to e-mail them for exact time they run on a given day -- but you have left it very late to get info.
You want guide suggestions but give no budget indications. If you want a licensed private guide that is allowed to take you inside of museums & ancient sites, that can be very pricey. They charge about $60 per hour, with 3 hour minimum usually. If you sign up for Athens Walking Tour, you can get in to a group of 12 -16 people with licensed guide for about ?? 35E ... their main tour starts at about 9:30 in Syntagma square and walks you around a few places, then up to Acropolis; lasts about 3.5 hours? They tell you all about the history, architecture etc, which may be more than you care to learn, it sounds as if you are just interested in pix. The 12E admission ticket is extra. Rick Steves book has a DIY tour of Athens I believe, but I'm guessing you do not have that... Here's a downloadable "3 day Athens highlight walk tour downloadable:" http://www.unanchor.com/itinerary/view/126
Santorini has standard bus tours... just go to one of the agencies on the main square in Fira Town and ask. prices/lengths vary. If you do not have a car, this is best way to get to all of the points of interest in shortest time. If you just want to go to Oia, and to the excavation at Akrotiri, you can take publlc busses from the bus depot in Fira town, downhill from main square, ask anybody. Just be sure to check the timetables at the bus-yard, they're not available at bus stops, or printed.
Hi,
I don't know exactly what you mean by photo tours but Santorini is picture perfect in every way. I did a tour of Santorini by renting an ATV and saw most of the island. However, buses would be better if you want a tour with a guide. I have some photos of my trip in Santorini here - http://battlemountain.wordpress.com/2014/09/14/photophiles-volume-iii-the-santorini-edition/#comments
Good luck!

thank you for the note. I didn't realize that I wasn't being clear. I will make a new post!
