Santorini and Mykonos after Oct 15th

Hi All,
Will Mykonos and Santorini be totally dead after Oct 15th or will it be OK if I visit those places then? I understand the ferry connection b/w both islands will stop after Oct 18th.

Thanks

Things will have died down considerably by mid-October but there will still be some shops, galleries, restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs open.

I visited Mykonos in mid October several years ago and it certainly was not dead. There were still quite a few tourists around. Shops and restaurants were open. Excursion boats to Delos were running, although not as frequently as in summer.

As far as I can see, ferries between Mykonos and Santorini are scheduled to operate daily until the end of October. Admittedly these are the smallest catamarans in Seajets' fleet but if the weather is good, the ride is likely to be fast and smooth. I used them in the past with no issues.

We did a day trip to Mykonos in the middle of October, the Low Season, and it was still crowded, three huge cruise ships spewing out hundreds of tourists at a time, crowded waterfront and back streets, multi-milliond-dollar yachts in the harbor, traffic and congestion.

It was not my idea of what we wanted for a Greek Island and I'm glad we just did a day trip rather than spend more time there. However, Mykonos is visually stunning and if you want to get away from the crowds then go uphill away from the waterfront where you'll find traditional white washed houses with colorful trim, but it's uphill and steep. That's why the tourists don't go there!

Everyone has their own idea of what they want for a Greek Island Experience so if you like the above then go for it, if not try Amorgos, Astypalea, Sifnos, Milos, Naxos, Ikaria, Lemnos, Fourni and many other low-key and more traditional islands.
