Santorini - airport to ferry with a lunch stop

Hi all,
We will be landing in Santorini on a Wednesday in early September at 11:55 a.m., then taking a ferry to Folegandros that leaves from Athinios at 3:10. I have been told to arrive early at the ferry because of crowds, etc. According to Googlemaps, it's a 20 minute drive. My questions are:

  1. Is it easy to grab a taxi outside of the airport?
  2. It looks like Pyrgos is en route to the ferry, and I assume less crazy/crowded than Fira. Would it be feasible to stop for lunch there, and would that leave us enough time to get to the ferry? My math tells me we will have around 2+ hours to spare, assuming all goes well.
  3. Restaurant recommendations in Pyrgos? And then we would need to get another taxi or bus - is that a likely scenario?

Thank you all in advance for your suggestions,
Rachel

Go directly to the ferry port. You can arrange a transfer from the airport to the port by contacting Gabi Birbeck on Facebook. She lives on the island and provides this sort of service. Taxis are unpredictable and more expensive. There are a couple of restaurants there so you don't have to stop along the way.

When I see this useful "insider advice", so clear, so problem-solving, so specific, I feel thankful, once again, for the years of patient and knowledgeable answers provided by Lee/Brotherleelove to all Santorini visitors. I'll venture that over the past 20 years, he has provided more and better Santorini counsel than any other contributor, on the 3 major Greece travel forums. He is always willing to help, not with generalities, but with detailed solutions. We owe him our admiration and gratitude, and just wanted to express it here. Viva Lee!

On top of the tavernas at the port, you will get a ring side view of the organized chaos going on as each ferry disgorges passengers and boards new ones all within a few minutes. Its worth the cost of the food at the port.

Invaluable advice from Lee, is right, Janet!! Will definitely follow it, and so helpful. Viva la Lee!

Also thank you to Stan for the taverna advice. Lovely to watch chaos from above :).

Y'all are a great and helpful bunch.

Oh you will not be watching chaos from above . The tavernas at the port are essentially on the same level as the port just on the far side of the ferry dock. You will be just on the edge of the action. Its worth the price of an snack and a couple of Mythos.
