Santorini

RC cruise in early Sept. One day in Santorini. 7-7pm. Need advise on time to leave ship and start our tour ; We are thinking of doing a private 4 hour tour and then on our own. We are thinking of not leaving the ship till about 9ish to be shuttle to cable cars to meet our driver. Guess we would neet out driver around -10:30. Do you think the cable car lines will be better then. We enjoy our mornings and did not want to start day as early as 7 ish. Your thoughts.

A good friend of mine just came back from a cruise that included Santorini. He said it was a one hour line to get on the cable cars, and another one hour line to get on the transfer lighter. And it was hot. His advice to me was go see it, but be prepared to spend half a day just standing in line. Which basically had me rethinking the whole thing.

I think a ship’s excursion is the smart choice for Santorini — especially if there are multiple ships in port that day (and you can check that online). Doing a private tour, it could take til mid-morning just to get on your tender, and then you have lines for the cable cars, and then lines again to get back to the ship. I don’t think it would be an enjoyable day.

Totally agree. You'll get priority boarding for the tender, and the ship will wait for you if the unexpected delay happens.

We took a ship's excursion that covered the entire island and it started away from the donkey path up the hill. With all the donkey manure, you don't want to do that.

The tour was great.
