Is it doable on our own to walk from Fira to Oia??

Of course. Hundreds of people do it every year. It takes about 3-4 hours depending on how fast you walk and how many times you stop to take photos. About halfway along the trail the path briefly returns to the main road where there is a "Snack Shop", but bring food and water in case it's not open. Start the walk early in the morning to avoid the heat. There's lots of loose gravel, so wear sturdy shoes, not sandals, as well as sunglasses, a hat and sunscreen.

Thank you so much for your response. We will be there in early April so maybe it won't be as hot, although it would feel good after a Midwest winter

We did it in reverse as we were staying in Oia in late May. There is not much shade but we were fine in May and should be even cooler in April.

It was the most beautiful hike I have ever done. Part of it is on a sidewalk but then really becomes a hike so make sure have appropriate footwear and bring water. We stopped at the place Lee mentioned and had a snack. It was a pleasant thing to do.

The entire hike took us about 3 hours and that was with our stop and way too many pictures.

I'm assuming there's nowhere to go to the bathroom on the hike?

Last week we hiked from Imerovigli to Oia and then hiked back again. We wore our hiking clothes along with broad brim hats. Most people were in shorts and sneakers. We found an alternate trail back that wasn’t as crowded or steep. We left early in the AM when it was still cool and overcast. After the snack shop which had homemade lemonade, sodas, and beer along with food we saw a man with a pack of donkeys which were for rent for those who wanted a less aerobic way to get to Oia. By the time we returned to our hotel in the afternoon we were ready to jump in the pool. Our visit to Oia coincided with a nice breeze, lunch, and a cruise ship’s arrival. We enjoyed watching the fashion show along with the selfie poses of the passengers.

Our 24 yo son walked it Thursday, Firastephani to Oia about two hours each way. He did say part of the path was pretty narrow and rough, btw, and that he was glad he had enough water.
