We are catching ferry from Kusadasi to Samos at the conclusion of our RS Tour of Turkey. The port were we land is Pytagorion. Any advice about hotels close to the beach around this area would be appreciated. We are looking for three days RandR before flying to Athens to see that part of Greece independently. Its been quite some time since we visited Samos and somehow all my photos have disappeared however this is what I recall. You have two basic choices to make: stay at a hotel at the waterfront of Pytagorion.
This gives you access to all the activities of the town and a very short walk to the sea front taverns for evening dining. The walk to the beach was no more than 15 minutes. Second choice is to stay at a beach hotel and walk into the town when you want town based activities. We chose to stay in town and walk to the beach.
As I recall the beach hotels were quite expensive compared to the town.
Once you decide where you want to base yourself I would suggest you go on Tripadviser or booking dot com and do a hotel search for your dates. They will give you price. availability and most important reviews. I won't book a hotel with a rating below 8. I also will only book a hotel that gives you free cancellation and does not require a deposit.

I agree with Stan. Stay in the town. There are lots of restaurants and shops and you’ll have fun walking around. It’s been a dozen years since we were there so I can’t recommend a hotel —just go to one of the booking sites & find one that fits your needs.
Rent a car one day and explore the island. Be sure to bring an International Drivers License — you can pick one up at an AAA office for about $20? No need to reserve the car ahead — just wander the port & talk to various rental agencies & find the best deal. Samos is uncrowded & easy to drive and there’s lots to see ... some beautiful mountain villages & gorgeous little seaside towns.
My husband still regrets not buying a Pythagorean Theorem T-shirt when we were there!
Edit: I just saw your other post, and we flew the other direction (Athens to Samos). The airport is close to Pythagoria; check with your hotel for transfer suggestions.

After our RS Best of Turkey tour, we took the Meander ferry from Kusadasi to Samos. The ferrry docked in the town of Vathi. Passed through customs, etc there. Took taxi for 20 minute ride to Pythagorio on the other side of the island. Stayed 2 nights in town. Walked to nearby sites. Enjoyed quiet, friendly town with good food. Watched the "No Day" celebrations (28 Oct). Short taxi ride to airport for early morning flight to Athens. Beaches but we didn't use them. Good place for R & R.
