Samos, mykonos ,syros and tinos or skiathos, skopelos and alonissos

Hi
My wife (58 years old and i(64 years old ) are programing to spend 3 weeks in Turkey and Greece from 13 august to 3 september 2018.
Arriving to dalaman airpirt from istanbul ,we will rent a car to spend 2 nights in dalyan and 5 days in kas ( tour in kekova bay an excursion to Kastelloriso,a beach day in patara ir ksputas beaches ) and we will return to Sekcuk or kusadasi to visit Ephesus,
we hesitate  between to flight from Izmir to athens and a second fligh the same day to skiathos for 10 days in Sporades (skopelos, alonissos and skiathos),
Or  to take the ferry from kusadasi to samos for 4 days and  the ferry to mykonos for 6 days as a base to visit tinos and syros?
In the sporades ,skopelos seems a lovely green  island   with a good nightlife with musical evenings  at the end of August and has vast expanses on a sea of limpid water, alonissos has   a beautiful nature , whereas skiathos town seems to keep a good atmosphere day and night .
On the other side, samos has pretty villages apparently as Tinos ,while syros, very different from other cyclades ,seems to have a very beautiful chora.
Mykonos will serve to live a good festive atmosphere.
We are not  fans of beaches but we like  discover ,and visit beautiful villages, mueums , a festive atmosphere and romantic strols with beautiful sea views.
Thank you to advise .

You may be better off basing yourself on either Samos or Tinos with Tinos being a gem of a Greek Island with some of the prettiest villages I've ever been to in Greece. I haven't been to Samos but from all accounts offers a lot as it's the "Capital" of the Cyclades. You can also get to Andros from Tinos.

TOmmy, Samos is not part of the Cyclades ... I think you meant to say Syros, but mistyped.

Riadhou, I clicked on your name and found that you had begun MANY threads in late 2017 and earlier this year with inquiries, and many of us had given you extensive information; however, you still seem uncertain about choices for your holiday. This may be because you have not given us enough information to be able to give the best advice for YOU. Examples:

• A lively nightlife seems important to you, but I'm not sure what this means... do you want to do a bunch of drinking and dancing in nightclubs? Or do you just mean you want to sit in a cafe, and watch a lively crowd filling the town lanes? On your posts in Trip Advisor, it says you're from Tunisia, so you may just want to be an observer of partying people, not a participant.
• You talk about wanting day trips, but the only Cycladic islands that offer good day trips are Paros and Naxos. That's because they have a company (visitcyclades.com) that runs some dedicated excursion vessels -- boats that leave at 8 am or so and return befoe dinner. From Naxos you can day-trip to either Santorini (which you've already seen) or Mykonos, or Paros or Antiparos.
• Your flowery descriptions of islands sound like you pasted them from websites... but also sound as if you've never actually looked at a guidebook. Websites just describe highlights, but only guidebooks will say what the predominant "mood" of a place is ... which may or may not suit your background or temperament.

ABOUT YOUR WISH LIST: From personal experience or extensive reading & talks with many travelers, some observations:
• TINOS - you need a car to explore the island, villages are mainly of interest for handicrafts. And you will not find the nightlife you seek, even after the big Religious Observance around May 15 is over; it's not that kind of place.
• SYROS - Yes, its port has Beautiful Main Square where everyone strolls at night, and that's good for 1 day. What you should know (and seem not to have read about) is that it's very Business-oriented, not much about arts, crafts, music, etc. Also, in my experience, Syros visitors are about 90% Greek, and not that welcoming to Nongreeks, one may feel very much an outsider.
• SAMOS - Easy to Reach from Ephesus, Vathy (port town) has lovely Ano Vathy upper town, & has good museum, rest of town not as appealing ... Pythagoras is package-holiday beach strip. The rest of island has dramatic landscapes, you need a car to explore ... not much nightlife except for, again, beach strips like Ippokampos with purpose-built package-holiday "resort" buildings. Western part of has many small unvisited villages which hikers love.

The SPorades - SKIATHOS is very influenced by "package holidaymakers" from Britain, yes lots of partying in port town, is that what you mean? SKOPELOS & ALONISSOS< being harder to reach & no airport, is not as full of the package-crowd, but then may not have the nightlife u want.

Once upon a time, you considered NAXOS, but then seem to have crossed it off your list. Why? In August, the nightlife in the port town is VERY lively, while not being a drunk-party scene, it has a very appealing waterfront crescent of cafes & shops. While its beaches are lovely, Naxos has SO much more for nonswimmers to explore; its mountain villages are wonderful, the BEST museum in the Cyclades (tiny but awesome). You speak of wanting authentic Greek music, most isles don't have this -- but at least 1x per week there's a concert in a Venetian mansion courtyard with young villagers doing traditional dances. This is one of the best islands I know for romantic strolls w. sea views. What soured you on Naxos?

Janet: Yes, it was a typo . . . I should have stated Syros . . . which appears to be a very nice island . . . so is Samos from people who have gone there.

I think the Greeks like to play with people by having islands with similar sounding names and very close spelling:

Paros/Poros/Paxos
Syros/Samos
Leros/Lemnos

on and on.

Anyway . . . what's in a name. Most Greek Islands will offer a wonderful experience.

riahdhou, didn't mean to assume anything , it's simply that most people I've met in US who are Tunisian are Moslem and observant, so they don't indulge, and -- at least in places like Mykonos -- adult beverages are a big part of the nightlife. Please don't take it amiss ... I just didn't want to promote partying if you didn't want that scene.

I think your Turkey plans sound great. In Dalyan, be sure to take a river cruise. And we really enjoyed the sea turtle hospital at Iztuzu beach. We stayed at Kilim hotel, which was wonderful.

I know you’ll enjoy your time in Kas and Ephesus. On the way to the beach in Patara you’ll pass through some interesting ruins. Be sure to take a look at the well-preserved arch and many types of Lycian tombs. You will have the place practically to yourself... far different than the crowds you’ll see in Ephesus.

After Ephesus, instead of disrupting the flow of your trip with two airplane flights, just take the ferry to Samos for a night or two. Then spend your remaining time in Naxos. It’s a great island with so much to do and see. And it has plenty of day trip options, to Mykonos-Delos, or to the Small Cyclades. Or you could even spend a couple of nights in Amorgos, easily reached from Naxos. We stayed in the port town, Katapola, at a great, inexpensive hotel (Porto Katapola) overlooking the harbor.

This would be a wonderful trip.

Hi !
Thank you all body for the interesting information and contributions and for helping me to finalize my itinerary in Turkey and Greece.
I opted for Skopelos, among others, for its international festival of folk dance to be held at the end of August.
But ,I agree that Naxos is the ideal island that offers a lot of things to everyone and that in the logical extension of my itinerary and to avoid 2 additional flights, the best would be to visit Samos very close to the Turkish coast and Naxos which is also close to many other beautiful islands like Amorgos, Mykonos Syros and Tinos as Charlene well noted. But, since I visited some islands of cyclades, dedocanneese and the Ionian sea (Paros, anti-paros, mykonos, delos, sifnos, folegandros, santorini, symi, rhodes patmos, lepsi, corfu, paxos, and the peloponnese ) I thought that Naxos would not be very different of paros for example (unless I'm wrong), so why i opted for the sporades!

riadh, telling us what you already had visited in the Cyclades (thus why you passed on Naxos) would have been useful information to share in your original message -- thus saving time and effort by those who thought you were overlooking its attractions. It is always a good thing to share your thinking behind your choices.

janet .You should have known all my travel destinations since you have already reviewed my messsges in other travel forums and even searched from witch country I am from and what religion could I belong to .You should know that religion is a personal belief and in this forum there is no place to talk about it. Here the whole community is united by the love of travel. And , nobody in my knowledge came to complain why i haven't mentionned the islands of Cyclades that I have already visited. If you have read my original message you should have realized that my question was precise, to ask the opinion of travelers on a specific itinerary . In addition, the different opinions are always enriching even for other travelers.
Please ,could you stop giving lessons to others, and stop judging people by their ethnic or religious affiliation.
In my there are not only Muslims, there are also Christians and Jews and athiets, but they form all a welcoming people , who belong to a country that has 3000 years of history while others only have a few centeries of existence...
