Samos Island after Best of Turkey--Pythagoreio, or?

My husband and I plan on 2 nights in Samos after our Best of Turkey Tour. We will take the ferry from Kusadasi (Saturday morning, 29 April 2023--we will ask our guide to help with booking). It looks like from my brief search online that there is only one port on Samos--in the capital, and the port is called Vathy...??? Correct?

And again from brief readings online, it would seem that Pythagoreio would be the town we would be looking to stay in/around? We really just want to hang out, wander, rest, eat, hopefully enjoy the water, etc. Suggestions?

Thank-you,
Tracey

The main reason to stay in Pythagorio would be the beach, and swims. In APril -- and indeed until May 15 -- it's tooo chilly to brave a swim... memorably, I tried it in Samos once on May 8, at a little cove at edge of Vathy... and lasted about 15 seconds... Brrrrr!! For that reason, Pythagoria which is mainly a beach=holiday place for Europeans, probably will be still closed down. Vathy will be where u find some action, cafes, a good museum actually (worth a stop for one very SPecial reason -- it has the Largest KOuros statue in entire World! they built a room for a headless statue that was discovered.. and then they found the head & had to lift the ceiling!).

IN 2 visits, stayed at this cute family-run place about 400 yards to left of port dock -- https://www.greece.com/hotels/North_Aegean/Samos/Pythagoras_Hotel.html - Hotel Pythagoras (altho in Vathy!) .. rigiht on water, ask for upstairs balcony overlooking the bay. No a/c - but in Late April, no need! If u book ahead, the owner will meet u when your boat docks.

Pythagorio is closest town to the airport. Later in the summer, ferries also go to Pythagorio from Kusadasi.

In late Oct 2018, after the Best of Turkey tour, we took the Meander ferry to Samos/Vlathy. Went thru customs and took a taxi to Pythagorio for a 2 night stay. Our host arranged a morning taxi for the short ride to the airport for out Athens flight. The town is small and very "walkable" with several good restaurants. The local church, a shrine in a cave, seeing the town, shopping and talking with locals were our main activities. Very relaxing and low key. We were in town for "NO day", celebrating the day the Greek gov't told Mussolini No to surrendering during WW2. A delightful local parade and dancing by the kids. Janet would have a better idea if the town is 'awake' at your dates.
