Hello,
We’re planning on hiking the Samarian Gorge in late May/early June. I understand at the end we arrive in Agia Roumeli and wait for a boat to arrive to take us to one of 2 locations wherein we take a bus back to Chania. Everywhere I’ve read on this mentions a 5:30 pm boat out of Agia Roumeli. Are there no other (earlier) options? If not, what time would I expect to get back to Chania? (I’m guessing we will hike at an average pace, not fast, not slow unless we get injured. And was thinking of taking the 7:45 bus out of Chania to Xyloskalo as 5 am would have us waiting for park to open at 7 am.). I had read where someone said not to expect to get back to Chania before 9 pm and am wondering if that’s accurate. Thank you
I don’t recall any options earlier than 5:30 pm. We had thought we would hang out at the beach but didn’t end up having time.
We went to Sougia after the hike and stayed two nights before returning to Chania so didn’t do exactly what you are proposing. But I don’t think the 9 pm is too far off. You have to take the ferry which might be 45 minutes and then walk to where the bus is. It isn’t far and they are coordinated but still some time. And then it is at least an hour and a half, maybe 2 hours back to Chania.
