Is it possible to enter Agora in the back entrance? My hotel is on Failrou street and was thinking of walking from there to Areopagus Hill. Then to Agora followed by Psyrri & Central Market Walk (RS book only). Google maps is not to clear from Areopagus Hill to Agora. There looks like a direct path but no street name. Is this a safe way to get to Agora?
Several years ago there was a back entrance that we used. It could easily be seen from the Acropolis and we just did some "dead reckoning" to get to it. That may have changed according to a post since we were there. Suggest you google variations of "Ancient Agora" and "Acropolis". It appears there are a number of sites that have different maps and that may be of some help to you.
We walked near the back gate in May while touring the Agora- late in the afternoon - and it was closed. Seem to remember limited hours it was open, surely there is somewhere you can check.
We were there in May, also, and it appeared this back entrance was closed permanently. It looked overgrown and didn't have any way for entry payment.
I was there mid-April 2 years ago and wanted to use the back entrance to exit. Even that was locked up. I thought maybe it was because it was "low season." Now it sounds like the RS guide book needs an update.
