Any recommendations for a restaurant in Athens with a good nighttime view? Do we need reservations?
You will be overwhelmed with options for restaurants and tavernas with budgets for everyone. My favorite area is Psiri District, more locals go there and knowledgeable tourists. No views though.
Plaka may be your best option if you want something with a view but it's very touristy so you'll have to do more research to find something that meets your needs.
Reservations aren't usually needed unless you are going to some over-the-top restaurant.

Our favorite restaurant for unique Greek cuisine and wine is Mani Mani. So good we ate there 3 times. Definitely need reservations. Centrally located south of the Acropolis (5 min. walk.). Highly recommended on the RS Forum. We stayed at the lovely Hotel Hera, one minute from the restaurant. No view from the restaurant, but Hotel Hera has a view of the Acropolis from the 3rd, 4th floors & rooftop Peacock Restaurant. We enjoyed Mani Mani without the view!
*** Edit: Mani Mani does require reservations!
I also agree for Mani Mani. You can also try Palia Agora or Agora at Hilton area. If you go to Glyfada area try Sardelaki
By nighttime view so you mean view of the Acropolis? If so you might have a look at the Strofi
The food isn’t as good as some of the other places mentioned but the view is better!
Alternatively the Diodos cafe on Adrianou, below Monastiraki station, has a great view and a good selection of meze at reasonable prices. It would be my choice for an Acropolis view, in fact I’ll be there next Thursday night and can’t wait!

You can't beat the views from the Roof Garden at the Grande Bretagne Hotel on Syntagma Square. Electra Palace Hotel roof top dining has great views too but we had we bad experiences staying at the hotel and dining there.
In Koukaki, south of Acropolis, my wife and I had an incredible meal at Kalyvas. Spit-roasted meats, amazing potatoes, and salads. Popular with locals. Another small gem is Sfika. Much smaller, but plenty of character. The only box these don’t check is a view of Acropolis, but the meals are worthy of creating memories on there own, and are a short (5-10) walk from south slope.
For me the food is more important than the view. However one place I can recommend that offers great food and views is Xenios Zeus near Anafiotika. Lots of atmosphere and character with nice views, good service and prices.
