Renting Peugot 301 or Skoda Scala Car - Similar to Toyota or Kia?

We are renting a car with automatic transmission from Athens Car Rental for 5 days when we fly from the US East Coast into Athens in a few months (first trip to Greece). We have no familiarity with these cars, but there will be 4 adults with luggage. The other options in the smaller car rental category (Nissan Pulsar, Kia Stonic, Toyota Corolla, Nissan Juke and Seat Arona) are too small.

Can anyone who has driven the Peugot 301 or SKoda Scala comment on whether they are as easy to drive - in terms of dashboard layout, controls, etc - as a Toyota, Nissan or Kia? I realize this is a subjective question, and we may not have a choice, but figured I would ask. Thank you in advance.

I’ve driven Peugeot’s and they’re easy to drive. The dash layout is pretty much like most other cars.

You know you can Google “Peugeot 301 interior layout” and get the same results I did.

Thank you. I did Google the car layout but wanted to hear from an actual driver since we have never rented a car for an international trip before. Appreciate your response!

No problem. Glad to assist. The Skoda Scala, on the other hand, is a 4 door hatchback which looks like it has more room than the Peugeot. They too are reliable, easy to drive cars. Good luck with your trip and enjoy Greece! We’ll be going back for the third consecutive year to visit more islands. We too fly from the east coast (logan) but always start in Italy because of family and friends. Luckily Delta now has direct flights to Milan which start this May.

Lucky you! After researching Greece myself for a month, I ended up following Janet from Philly’s advice. Can’t wait!

Neither of these cars are very big and I think will be a squeeze for 4 adults plus luggage. I’ve been in a Scala fairly recently. I don’t know how much driving you are doing or how much luggage you have but I’d recommend looking at reviews or videos and stats on the size of these cars and see if you feel that they will comfortable enough.

Hmm. Thank you for that advice. Athens-carrentals.com only offered me two size options for the rental car - perhaps because we can only drive automatic transmission? 3 out of 4 of us will have carry-on size suitcases.

We just got back from driving a Peugeot 5008 crossover around Italy for 10 days. It drove really well, sportier than my Hyundai Santa Fe Sport here at home. It was one of the biggest cars on the road but it had room for my family’s two ginormous suitcases plus all the rest of our stuff. Good luck with whatever you wind up renting!

If this is the vendor--- https://www.athens-carrental.com/site/vehicle/station-wagon-automatic-rental/en

it shows the Corolla wagon having the largest luggage capacity at 600 liters (~ 21 cubic feet).

Most of the other AT options show around 400 liters ( ~ 14 cubic feet).

You might to test pack a car at home and see how much space you might be using. In the hatchback/wagon styles some of the space may be above window level and will be visible. Don't overlook that 2 cars with the same 'capacity' may have different amounts of usable space.

It didn't occur to me to check manufacturer specs for luggage size. Thank you hugely! I so appreciate everyone's advice!
