We are going to Crete for 5 days/4 nights post RS tour, arriving in Crete on April 13. We plan to rent a car after a day or two exploring old town. We are staying at Ella Palatino. Do we need to rent a car in advance or can we wait until we get there and decide when we will really need the car?
It’s super easy to rent a car in Crete. Car rentals are advertised everywhere. In April there will be lots of oversupply due to being low season and so you won’t have any problems at all.
Thank you for the prompt response. My only concern is that this is the week leading up to Easter. We will be arriving in Crete on a Sunday, will probably need the car either Mon-Wed or Tues-Thursday. We are flying back to Athen Thursday afternoon for our return flight to the US on Good Friday.
Practically every corner shop in Crete will went you a car. The place is full of tourists in summer and most only want a car for a day or two as they’re predominantly on beach and pool style trips. Easter is still low season.
Except that it is the school holidays.
It would help if you'd say whether you can drive stick-shift... many americans can only use automatic-shift and there are fewer of these available.
Automatic preferred, but can drive a stick.
Thanks James. Still haven't decided what to do. A few conflicting opinions. We usually always rent in advance but we don't know exactly when we'll need the car, plan is to explore old town the first day or two,and our hotel will pick us up for a nominal fee. Thanks for the links
