Red Beach in Santorini

We will be in Santorini in April. I am wanting to get some good photos of the the red beach in contrast with the turquoise water. I am concerned about the light. I don’t want to go too early and the red not not be lit by the sun yet. Can anyone offer some advice on when the best time for capturing a good photo? I have read conflicting advice on Google. Thanks

Ok. Thanks. We will try not to get there before noon then. Originally planned to go there first thing that morning but I m afraid that the sun won’t be high enough at that time.

Be advised that Red Beach is an extremely dangerous place to spend time. The cliff above the beach is loose rock that falls without warning. The beach is posted but people ignore the warning signs and go there anyway. Someday someone's going to be seriously injured or, even worse, killed.

The Akrotiri excavation is nearby and well worth visiting. You could go there first and then to the beach. That's what we did.

Thanks everyone, yes we are planning on doing the excavation site first. It looks like it would be very interesting. We are not planning on going to the beach part just the area to view the beach. Yes, I realize that it is dangerous but from what I have read, the viewing area is at the top of the trail before the trail is dangerous. We just want to see it and snap a few photos. It will be too cold to swim anyway.

I second this. Access to the beach is really precarious. Not worth it either because you won't see anything spectacular even if you decide to take the risk. Just view it from the view point and avoid the walkway that goes down to the beach. We were there a couple of weeks ago.
