My husband and I are planning our travels to Greece for September of 2026. We will have about 2 weeks. Our interests are old picturesque villages with narrow winding allies to explore, preferably on Islands but possibly on the peninsula. Also beautiful views of the ocean and good food.
Greece is made up of thousands of picturesque villages with narrow winding allies, whether on its hundreds of islands or on the mainland (by the way, Greece is not a peninsula). Good food and beautiful views are everywhere (by the way, it's not an ocean, but a sea).
So, to get possible answers, you should probably do some research beforehand to clarify your request.
Travel guides and a few websites can help.
A starting example:
Thank you jo, I have been doing research and am looking for a real stand out. any suggestions? Other than Santorini. Perhaps even an island that has two little villages on it and good restaurants and a good view of the sea. Thank you, Linda
In recent years, I've avoided the Cyclades and spent time on other islands that could potentially be considered standout and unusual destinations in this forum, but which I highly recommend for anyone looking to venture slightly off the beaten track.
Regarding villages, restaurants, and other good views, see for yourself:

Kythira:
There are a number of very beautiful Greek Islands that don't get over run with tourists and September is a good time as the tourist season is winding down.
Two of my top three favorite Greek Islands are Tinos and Amorgos with Tinos having the most beautiful Greek Villages I've seen in my travels.
Amorgos is a gem also and has beautiful villages and the fantastic Hozoviotissa Monastery.
Both islands are scenic and still retain a nice Greek Vibe.
I would also recommend Kythira as it's another island that doesn't get all the hype of the Big Name Islands but still offers the real Greece.
It has an airport but still doesn't get big crowds especially off season.
