Recommendations for lodging and boat tout Milos

We are a family of 4 with 18/20 year old sons looking for recommendation for lodging in Milos in early June. Ideally on or near beach, walking to Taverna’s and near bus so we can explore island. Don’t really need kitchenette as probably will eat out mostly but apartment style would be nice for more space. Plan to take boat tour to see beaches and looking for suggestions as well.

Milos in particular is an island you'll want a car for. The bus system is pretty limited and will just end up frustrating you as there are lots of great beaches and other sites that will be difficult/impossible to reach.

I stayed in Pollonia, which is the town on the east side of the island about 10km from the port city of Adamantas. I stayed at Hotel Glaronissia which is just outside Pollonia. It's not apartment style but I know plenty of studios and apartments in the area; I can't help you as to which one is good/not good.

I did a boat tour with Captain Andreas. He leaves from Pollonia late in the morning and the tour goes to Poliegos rather than going around Milos as most other boat tours do, so you don't get to Kleftiko but there's less boat traffic on his route. Andreas has a smaller boat (max 15 passengers) and you have to email him ahead of time (but not more than 10 days) to make a reservation. Food/drink is included, with what he caught and grew and some local wine, along with water/beer/soda. There's a couple of swimming stops before the BBQ on the island. Your sons will probably want to hike with Andreas to the lighthouse.

Andres and his wife also rent a few studios in Pollonia; I didn't stay with him so I can't help you with any insight into his accommodations.

And again, you really need a car on Milos, and I'm generally all about public transport. I'd suggest a different island with a better bus system if you really don't want to get a car. I'd recommend Sifnos, I bet Janet will recommend Naxos.

Wrong, window office -- I am also a fan of Milos IF (as you said) you can rent a car, and do one of the boat trips. You liked Capt Andreas, we liked going on the catamaran Chrysovandu... it has capacity of 14 passengers, in early June there were jsut 8 of us -- it is big, and sturdy, and thus we wre able to stay under sail much of the time, when smaller boats had to drop sail & just motor (no fun). Its route took us to Kleftiko ... where we wre able to gt into small rubber boats and row around in the natural arches & open caves there -- what a kick! We also stopped at a cove for swims, had a good lunch, wine, afternoon snacks etc.

Furthermore, I'm a great fan of Sifnos, like to stay up i the hill villages and take the bus down to Beaches -- I like Vathy best, and t hen Platy Gialos. Bus service good, and if you stay in the hills, in June most of the nightlife, music etc, is in one of the Apollonia lanes ... the beach towns very quiet after 6 or so in June. I think Sifnos also has some boat tours that go along the island rim ... and of course Sif is great for hikes, in the flagstone paths that connect all the towns.

And then there's Naxos... but why go on about it here? u can click on my name, and go to any of the Naxos threads... Window office, I've been to nearly 20 islands I think, and have enjoyed my stay and have discoveries to share regarding each one. I tend to mention Naxos more, because it suits so many interests --- rather than Chios, or Folegandros, or Syros, which have more narrow interests for particular persons.

This last September I stayed at the Aphrodite of Milos Hotel Apartments in Adamas, the main village. It's within easy walking distance to a beach and all the shops and restaurants. They put me in a 2-bedroom apartment even though it wasn't what I had reserved. No complaints! http://www.aphroditemilos.com
