Hi, I am planning a day tour to Delphi (family of 3) , any good private day tour to recommend?
Any other day tour to recommend beside Delphi
Are you doing this from Athens? We used Private Greece Tours for a 5 day private tour. They are awesome. Here's their website: https://privategreecetours.com. Here's the review I did on TripAdvisor after our tour: https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g189400-d1924860-r661375824-Private_Greece_Tours-Athens_Attica.html.
You can't go wrong with Private Greece Tours. Great customer service and one of my favorite drivers ever. We did not add on an actual guide for walking through Delphi but you can. Our driver, George, gave us plenty of information...about Delphi, Greece, food, culture etc. as we drove around.
OMG! We just had an amazing two hour tour this morning with George set up by Niki Olympic Tours, which we found through Rick Steves. He was so great at ushering us around through both the museum and sight, bypassing any tours, focusing on many interesting aspects. He clearly knew his stuff, wasn’t just going through a script. We could tell that our experience was vastly superior to any others we happened to overhear.
Going early was important- we had an hour and a half before the site was getting many tours.
We highly, highly recommend him.
Andrea, your rave review will be even more helpful if y ou add these key details -- (1) Is George a licensed guide that meets people at the delphi site... or is he someone who accompanies you from Athens?
(2) did his services include transportation to/from Athens
(3) What was the total fee for his services, & how many were in your party?
Janet, always appreciate your diligence! I’m sitting at Zoe’s resort south of Olympia right now based on your recommendation.
Anyway, Niki Olympic Tours is recommended by Rick Steve’s and is listed in his book. She set up George for us in Delphi. We met him at the gate. We were already spending two nights in Delphi. The cost for two of us was 110 Euro- I’m sure less per person for more people. Excellent!
Thank you for replying with the extra info, Andrea! Yes, the standard hourly fee for a licensed guide these days, for a private tour is between €50-60 per hour, and usually a 2 hr minimum. So for 3, it would be less per person. If George were not available, irene could email a well-known Delphi guide Georgia Hasioti https://sites.google.com/view/delphi-guide who's personally known by a friend of mine in the hospitality business who herself lives in Delphi.
Andrea, delighted to hear you're at Zoe's... its been raining raining raining everywhere i go for weeks... Indiana, Ohio, Kentucky -- and now back in Philly! I read that in Athens its sunny & 78 and grit my teeth in envy.. But sooon I'll be there, end of month. I trust you have met the actual Zoe (whose grandpa named the place for her when she was a tot). Send greetings from Travelerjan from Philly, who was there last in June 2015. Tell her I have a favorite mental picture to use when I'm having trouble going to sleep -- I am sitting in one of the basket-chairs on her beach, just in the shade of a palm. It's 5:30 at night, and Greek dads have just driven onto the pier with their kiddies for quick dip before dinner. They're splashing around saying "papa Papa" ... My novel (by Trollope) falls into my lap, my eyes close....
