My husband and I are in Athens for 3 days and we were looking for some good restaurants with Greek food . We have noted down Ariston for pies ,Mani Mani and Attalos . We are not looking for fine dining (I did check out Aleria but not sure if we will go there or not ),otherwise we are looking for moderately priced restaurants. Any help would be highly appreciated. Also, Is there any place we should be looking out for an amazing gyro ?
We like this place, where we always sit up on the roof: http://www.anafiotika.gr/en/
The area is nice, too--if you go a bit higher on the slope of the Acropolis, you come across little lanes, some only 3 feet wide, that amount to a "back way" to the Acropolis entrance area.
One of the best and less touristy areas for tavernas is the Psiri District very near Monistiraki Square. Excellent food and atmosphere and without the touristy crowds of the Plaka.
Check out Atlantiko, Taverna Tou Psiri and Oinopoleion Taverna with Atlantiko one of the best seafood tavernas I've been to at very reasonable prices.

Ate here for lunch and dinner. YUM
RE: Gyro. I apologize as I don't have access to my photos at the moment for the name. But...outside the exit from the metro to the Plaka (near the Acropolis Museum) you will see a row of restaurants with hawkers on the pedestrian street. Ask the hawkers from the Acadia and/or God's for the best gyro. They will send you down an alley to a hole in the wall that has wonderful gyros.
In addition to our favorite (Mani Mani) for dinner, we enjoyed The Balconey Restaurant for lunch on their open Balconey. Creative Greek menu, delicious food, pleasant atmosphere and attentive staff brought us back for a second visit. They also gave us complimentary dessert. It is located a short distance from Mani Mani.
