This winter has been exceptionally wet in Greece, with multiple storms sweeping across the country. In Messinia this has resulted in many roads being affected by landslides. The national road across the Lagada-Taygetos pass between Kalamata and Sparti via Artemisia is currently closed due to severe damage to the substructure and many smaller rural roads are similarly affected.
They are working hard to repair everything but if you are planning an early season road trip you would be well advised to check your route ahead of time, especially if you are planning on going off the major roads.
