Quick Stop in June in Santorini with Small Child

I'm looking for a good value for the night in Santorini if possible. Ideally under $100 (pension or Airbnb?) or possibly up to $150 since I know Santorini is a more costly island.

We're heading out for a month long tour of Greece - two mid-thirties parents and a 4-year-old who's a fairly patient traveler. We're spending 5-7 days each in quieter parts of Greece like Hania and Nafplio but want to pass through Santorini for one night to see the cliffs and caldera briefly on our way out of Heraklion on our way to Naxos and the Cyclades.

We're doing our best to avoid the most touristy spots on our trip, but I understand that's impossible in Santorini. That said, I'm finding deals online in Perissa or Mesaria and it looks like these are within 30 minutes of the port, but also look kind of sparse and far from the beautiful sites around the caldera.

Do I need to just suck it up and pay through the nose for Oia or something similar, or does anyone have any tips from their travels through Santorini? Our only agenda for the trip would be walks to take in the geologic sites and a decent, clean place to crash before moving on.

First, start thinking in Euro to avoid confusion. USD$100 = €85

Try using the filter system at www.booking.com to search for what you want at the price you are willing to pay. Messaria is spread out so what you find there might not actually be a convenient location. Perissa Beach has affordable hotels, as does Kamari Beach. If you want to stay closer to the island social/commercial center focus your search on Fira and Firostefani. Check the Sunset Hotel for starters, but there are lots of inexpensive hotels in Fira as long as you're not after a calder view.

I think thats the calculation everyone makes; money/view vs. budget/no view. We are also going for month and staying on Santorini for 3 nights, and we opted for a hotel without a view but with a pool (3 kids) and 2 minute walk to bus stop and 20 minute walk to Fira. Since we plan to be active, the view was less important to us. We're staying in Karterados for ~150usd/nt for 5 ppl.
You may also have a harder time keeping your budget because you are looking late. Its just one night, so an out-of-budget place wouldn't be horrible
good luck :)

Thanks for the tips. I've never used booking.com but it helped narrow down some choices, and it looks like Fira is a great place to be for one night since there seem to be buses that go from the port in Athinios to Fira when a ferry gets in. Just booked the Pelican Hotel for €100, which is right where I wanted to be for our one night in Santorini. Thanks!
