Tech unsavvy. Husband will be traveling in Greece for approx three weeks. Would like to be able to use wifi calling, gps via maps, and basic internet research while traveling between lodgings. Suggestions for easy wifi on iPhone 16? Thank you.
Get an eSim
If you use the Wi-Fi provided by your accommodation or wherever you happen to be, you won't be using cellular data, so there is no need to switch to a different SIM or eSIM or to use a personal portable wifi device. I assume, then, that you want a connection via a Greek mobile carrier just in case no Wi-Fi is available
.
The carriers are Vodafone, Cosmote, and Nova.
I know you can find temporary plans at Cosmote or Vodafone stores in Athens (I don't need one with my French plan, so I haven't tried them myself).
Here is an example with Vodafone:

Also, keep in mind that you can pre-download maps to avoid using cellular data when Wi-Fi isn't available (for instance, with navigation apps while driving or walking).
This is possible with Google Maps (though you can only download a specific area at a time).
Apps that use open-source maps, like OsmAnd, allow you to pre-download the map of an entire country for free (while at home or on Wi-Fi) and then use no internet connection at all while traveling.
The same applies to HERE WeGo.
