Places to travel to from Athens to best spend 2 days ?

I have 2 days to fill and need suggestions. I will be in Athens in late August having finished a week in Crete and have 2 days to fill. What location options do you suggest to fill those 2 free days that would be fun and interesting and be efficiently traveled to from Athens.

Nafplio!!! This (noncommercial) website tells Everything ! http://www.visitnafplio.com/

These pix - http://www.flickr.com/photos/stanbr54/sets/72157632094108982/ - by Greece expert and Cretophile Stanbr, shows why he loves Nafplio & Argolid so much also! Nafplio is considered THE most beautiful Old Town in Greece (Chania is #2) -- you'll have a chance to compare.

It's super-easy to access via fast, modern air-conditioned intercity (KTEL) bus. Just taxi from y our cntral athens hotel to Kifissou KTEL bus terminal (about €13-14)... local busses aren't convenient. Nafplio express goes hourly on the Half-hour, takes 2.5 hours... Reserved upholstered seats, €13. Usually OK to arrive 20 mins or so before bus pulls out ... but if going on a Friday, go early... it could fill up. Tickets NOT sold in rgular ticket room but at a desk right beside the bus. Bus is stationed at the Exit door of termnal... ask anyone. For best views of Saronic Bay outbound, request seat on LH side.

For a room, go to booking.com Nafplio, plug in your dates, then when list comes up, click on little window in upper RH corner of screen labeled "map View".... shows which places are really in Old Town. Ones at Map edge Farthest from water are up high with stairstep lanes to reach them. On sea level, look at Omorfi Poli, Hotel Agammemnon, Hotel Athina. Pension Dafni. Bargain hotels up the stairsteps = Pension Eleni, Pension Bonne Nuit.

Exploring the town itself, and nearby beach(es) can occupy your days delightfully ... if you do want to see ONE sight, I'd say, take an early AM bus to Ancient Epidaurus. Don't spend time on the acres of ruins -- the stunning (world-famous) ancient theatre is the thing... the world's most perfect acoustics.

TIP -- On the way back, if y ou ask the bus driver to drop you at the ASINE crossroads (just outside of Tolo Beach)... walk 200 yards down a shady lane, and there's a Hellenic ruin(ASINE) but on other side of road, a cute tiny sand beach & tiny rocky cove beach, NEVER Crowded... and ONE canopied taverna with stunning view. Use their restroom to don your swimsuit, and have a final lovely swim, then have a glass of wine and a plate of fish. They'll tell you where to stand for the bus back to Nafplio... a 15 minute ride.
