The more I read about Athens traffic the more concerned about getting to the airport on time. We need to go from Piraeus Terminal A to the Airport for a 10AM flight on a Thursday. We are thinking a Taxi may be the best option. What time should we leave to be at the airport by 8AM? Would the metro be more dependable than a taxi for timing? (We will have carry-on luggage and a small backpack each)

Piraeus metro station is in the Ferry arrivals and departures area about 30 minutes walk from Terminal A.
Take a taxi. Travel time depends on traffic. Allow at least 1 hour in the morning between 7am and 9am.
Being at the airport 2 hours before your flight is also a minimum
So to be on the safe side I would not leave Terminal A later than about 6:30am for a 10am flight.
Better to arrive 45 minutes too early than 5 minutes too late.
